About

Therapy is self-care

I offer counseling so that you may gain new awareness, and have the support to make necessary changes. You may be navigating an illness, a crisis, a transition of any sort that seems beyond your ability to cope. I take a collaborative approach in the process of uncovering your inner wisdom. We work through obstacles such as trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, or other forms of suffering, and work towards building the happier, more fulfilling life that you want to create.

Problems are symptoms of the deeper issue of the self against the self.

Most think therapy is about fixing problems. Traditional therapy is good at mending symptoms; i.e., alleviating depression, calming anxiety, propping up a marriage. But unless the seed problems are addressed, the symptoms will often change location, change form, and reappear elsewhere.

Traditional counseling and therapy usually focus on the emotions, not on the thoughts behind those feelings. My emphasis is on the correct use of the mind and mindfulness, choosing which thoughts to think. The Art of Thought, the Art of Choice.

A partnership in healing

Mindfulness and confronting personal conflict is the beginning of the transformation. I enter a therapeutic relationship with a deep sense of the sacred. To me it is a partnership in healing. I offer maps, advice, my experience, and 38 years of professional expertise–but ultimately it is your journey, and it is your own wisdom that you seek.

Few understand how to ask and how to listen for answers. I am trained in traditional therapeutic techniques, but I also go beneath healing symptoms to teach communication with the soul (where the seat of any problem always resides).

Nothing on Earth is more important than establishing this vital communication link. It is a sacred and profound birthright that has been kept secret from us.

“The source of most disease is in the spirit. Therefore, the spirit can cure most disease.”

Nicola Tesla

About Me

Much of my life, when I wasn’t developing my career, was about seeking the answers to these potent questions:

  • Why am I here?
  • What are the rules?
  • How do I win the game?
  • What is true success?
  • What am I supposed to be doing with my life?
  • Why is there so much suffering?

On several occasions, I entered lengthy periods of solitude and meditation in the wilderness. During my testing and seeking, I discovered that most people do not even try to answer these questions, because they seem unanswerable –unfathomable parts of the Great Mystery. But in time, I did find answers. Answers that made a great deal of sense and gave me peace.

I provide a safe, nonjudgmental place to explore feelings and attitudes as far as you wish to wander. I love watching the process of someone arriving torn and ravaged by self-hatred and seeing them begin to love themselves. I love watching my clients’ lives begin to be easier, more fluid, with less hassles, less conflict, and far less pain. I LOVE watching my clients’ dreams come true.

Living in the internationally known art colony of Taos, New Mexico, I bring a wide range of professional experience to my private practice, which I established in 1980. I have also taught in schools and colleges and have worked as a family therapist with non-profit organizations in California and Hawaii.

My education includes a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Tufts University, a Masters’ Degree in Transpersonal Psychology from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, and a Ph.D. in Transpersonal Psychology from Summit University. I am also certified as a Master Hypnotist, an Addictions Counselor by the West Coast Institute of Addictive Studies, and as a Mindfulness Coach and Doula.

My specialties are PTSD counseling, addiction recovery, smoking cessation, pre- and perinatal counseling, infant and child development, as well as teen and adult therapies. As a cancer survivor, I am particularly interested in severe illness and trauma recovery. I have therapy clients and groups in Santa Fe and Taos.

My hobbies include yoga, skiing, mountain biking, photography, and writing. I am currently working on an e-book titled “The Cancer Dialogues.” Spending time with my daughter and grandson is truly a blessing.

Don’t
Surrender
Your loneliness so quickly.
Let it cut more
Deep.
Let it ferment and season you
As few human
Or even divine ingredients can.
